On the Purple Dragon

The purple dragon has never claimed to be a Greater Entity, to be revered on the basis of some intrinsic, lofty status. Its merits rest rather on the demonstrated achievements of its illustrious past. For example, one evening a wicked sorceress traveling through Faerie was waylaid by the Purple Dragon. She issued a challenge to the dragon: if it could not answer her riddle then it must allow her to pass unmolested. "Recite to me a sentence," said the sorceress with a cackle, "containing words that rhyme with orange, monster and purple!" The purple dragon ruffled its gargantuan wings and tapped the ground with its razor-sharp talons before replying in a voice that sent ripples through the atmosphere, "The borange honster smurpled me." Then the purple dragon ate the wicked sorceress in a single gulp.
