My friend, Poison Pie, and I have lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for about the last eighteen months.
One of the things we have noticed in Knoxville, Tennessee is the curious abundance of
stairwells that lead nowhere. They surround us and we have a fondness for them because, like
the stairs, we don't want to go anywhere either.
We have been a lot of places other than Knoxville, Tennessee but now we are here and here
we would just as soon stay. Today, Poison Pie and I decided to acquaint ourselves with these
stairs, to climb them, and to explore the nothingness at their end.
This particular staircase lives down the street from us. Nobody lives there and the best thing about it is
that we can leave letters in the mailbox for each other, Poison Pie to me, and I to him, and when we check the mailbox,
we are always the happy recipients.
Poison Pie writes:
Dear D.,
Just thought I would drop you a line to say Hi.
How are things in Knoxville? I am doing well.
Your pal, P.P.
