Creation of the Gods: A Somewhat Less Than Critical
A few notes on these lists

  • The list of all the characters (both in alphabetical order and in order of appearance) include the first 98 chapters. Chapter 99 (in which the List of Creation is given) and Chapter 100 (in which the leaders of the individual states are named) are not included.

  • The list of creation given in Chapter 99 is inconsistent. There are supposed to be 365 Gods, but only 337 are named. Moreover only 35 of the 36 Heavenly Stars and 71 of the 72 Earthly Stars are listed.

Furthermore, numerous typographical errors (which were relatively scarce in the first 98 chapters of the book) are apparent in the list. For example, in the text, there are 53 characters whose souls explicitly fly to the Terrace of Creation in the first 98 chapters. Among these are Deng Zhong, Gao Zhang, and Ya Yuan. However, none of these names appears on the list of creation. However the names Dong Zhong, Gao Zheng, and Yu Yuan do appear on the List of Creations (although there were no characters with such names in the novel). Now, not every character on the List of Creation appeared in the novel, so there could be a Dong Zhong, Gao Zheng, and Yu Yuan, but this cannot explain away the absence of Deng Zhong, Gao Zhang, and Ya Yuan.

Moreover, some characters whose souls flew to the Terrace of Creation do not appear on the List of Creation at all. Two examples are Celestial Lotus and Pretty Cloud. Perhaps, these two are among the 28 Gods missing from the List of Creation.

In Chapter 83, there are 28 Gods briefly named and 21 of those do not appear on the List of Creations.

One assumes this gross discrepancy is in the original text. Still, it is strange to have such an obvious problem in a book which is otherwise meticulous about its accounting.
