Poison Pie did not know what lesson he was to have learned. He related the entire tale to some passing juvenile shelf mushrooms and asked if they knew what lesson he ought to have learned. "Don't read books!" said the mushrooms. "They only get you into trouble." Poison Pie thanked them but, privately, he did not think that they had the right lesson.
