Mushroom people are but the faintest bit ticklish. You have to get a whole cluster of mushrooms together before you've got enough ticklishness in close proximity to do some good. Even then, tickling a mushroom is by no means a sure thing. It helps to have the thinnest wisp of a live root tendril, still attached to the tree, with which to perform the tickling. As you can imagine, the opportunity seldom arises. But when it does, you had better batten down the hatches, because the tickling comes fast and furious.

I eyed Poison Pie with root in hand.

"Ho ho ho," said Poison Pie. "Don't even think about it."
